High Museum of Art Special Exhibits

after its multi-million dollar renovation , the museum of art hosted several renown exhibits, including Annie Leibovitz’s A Photographer’s Life. Be sure to stop by to take in the Louvre Atlanta exhibition. A beautiful courtyard and live jazz on Sundays make for a perfect afternoon hang out spot. The “High” shares its space with the Woodruff Performing Arts Center, home of the renowned Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, a destination in itself. Parking at the High is $10, but a round trip ticket on MARTA cost $3.50 and drops you off right across the street. Ride the rails to the Arts Center stop or take the Midtown Tourist Loup (Bus 101).

Piedmont Park Festivals

At 185 acres, Piedmont Park is the largest park in Atlanta. The park, home to the Atlanta Botanical Garden, includes several biking and jogging trails, including a four mile trail that will take you around the park’s perimeter. Piedmont Park is host to several events year round; the Atlanta Dogwood Festival attracts several thousand to its art and music showcase. This May marks the festivals triumphant return to the park, after being relocated due to drought conditions last year. During the spring and summer the park’s Lake Claire plays host to the Georgia Shakespeare Company. The troupe puts on several performances in the area, including Shake at the Lake.

As denizens know, parking in Atlanta is limited; around the park it’s nonexistent. The best way to enjoy the area is to take the MARTA rail line to the either the Arts Center or Midtown Station. Both stops are a few blocks away from the park. Alternate routes include MARTA bus 27 (Monroe Dr. /Lindberg) or 36 (Decatur). Several rail stops, such as Kensington Station, Candler Park and Inman Park, have free parking for patrons.
